I'm going to canada in a few days and was curious if my mastercard will work if i go out shopping. The exchange rate is 1 us dollar = .86 canadian. is it a good idea to use my credit card, if i can?

So I have a friend who's birthday is coming up and she lives in Canada. And I want to get her a Mastercard or Visagift card. My dilemna is that if I buy it in the US and give to her, she'll have currency conversion fees and such. So is there a place where I can get 1 online in Canadian fees, order it to be brought here and shipped to her?
