What can and can't you do if you have a Mastercard gift card, not a regular Mastercard?

I am thinking of getting a Mastercard gift card from the grocery store to use for Christmas shopping since I do not have a credit card (in high school). What can and can not you do? Is it basically a credit card but with a limit of money? Also, can you put money on it? What if I make money somehow on the internet? Can i put it on my Mastercard gift card?

The main things you can use it for is: Anywhere MC is accepted (tons of places), and many places online. There are certain (but few) things you can’t use it for: You can’t use it establish identity (like you can with credit cards), and you sometimes can’t use it for a deposit on something (i.e. if you were to rent a car). I’m not sure if you can reload it or not, however I know for a fact you can do that with the Green Dot card (google it). You may have to be 18 to get that, not sure tho. Hope this helps.
